The High Commission cannot

Papua New Guineans visiting and living in the UK are subject to the laws of the country they are in. Should a Papua New Guinean citizen find themselves in difficulty, the High Commission will attempt to ensure that he/she benefits from the same laws and means of redress which the UK affords its own citizens.

The High Commission can:

  • Assist PNG citizens to extend the validity of their passports.

  • Endorse a child in the mother or father's passport.
    (What you will need to submit)
  • Assist PNG citizens to obtain a new PNG passport, should your current passport need to be replaced. You will need to visit the High Commission in person.

  • Assist dependents of PNG citizens to enter PNG and reside as non-working or working residents. Please refer to the Passport and Visa information on this web site or contact the High Commission visa section for details.
  • Issue emergency passports or travel documents.
  • Arrange for the next of kin to be informed in the case of an accident, serious illness or death.
  • Witness and certify signatures.
  • Visit PNG citizens in jail and inform family if required.

The High Commission cannot:

  • Provide financial assistance
  • Arrange travel or hotel bookings
  • Pay hotel, medical or other bills
  • Give legal advice or provide funds to pay for legal costs
  • Obtain work permits
  • Store belongings
