Aikido

Aikido is a relatively modern martial art devised by O Sensei Morihei UESHIBA in the 20th Century. It has many influences, mainly Judo, Ju-Jitsu, Ken-Jutsu. The principles of Aikido are Peace and Harmony with others. Physically the intention is to neutralise aggressive intentions without harming your attacker. In that regard it is considered a defensive martial art. If you want to know more about the history of Aikido, google would be a good place to start.

Neil started Aikido in January 1995 with Sensei Robert Mackenzie in Anstruther. After Robert stopped teaching Neil attended the University of St Andrews Aikido Club . Neil received 1st Dan in November 2000 from Anita Bonnivert, 4th Dan from Belgium who has been a technical director of the club for over 12 years. Anita's husband Bob (6th Dan) unfortunately passed away in 2000. Neil sucessfully passed his 2nd Dan in December 2004.
