KEY
This family tree is ordered in the generations in which they occur - the Initial Generation being the first known ancestors. Entries with no parents listed are not connected to the previous generations and may appear on a separate family history. If parents are not known they are stated as "Parents not known". Those highlighted in bold are the main connecting generations and connect to the author. Different entries in black under one generation signify different family branches which will all join up with Archibald & Mary.
Abbreviations b. d. m. have been used as for birth, death, marriage. Marriages, where known, are CoS unless stated. Name in brackets or underlined is usual name of person. If a code number is recorded that is the code used in the General Registers for Scotland at New Register House - year, district, entry no. Census entries have M, W, U for married, widow(er) and unmarried.
Probably WILLIAM RENTON b. circa 1705 d. buried 4 Mar 1787 Channelkirk. It is unknown where he was born or who his wife was. Also being researched by Gail Dowell and Paul Renton. Gail and Paul are researching William's son John b. Channelkirk m. London. John's son William emigrated to the US in 1818.
May have been a miller, living at Wisely Mill or Wiselaw Mill, Channelkirk (spelled"Waisill Milne" about 1627). One of his daughters apparently married a miller or mill owner. IGI lists about 5 daughters but no sons, all christened Channelkirk.

Violet (also Kairnes etc) could have been born 13/6/1779 Langholm, Dumfries to James Kairnes and Anne Young. Lonie also found as Loanie, Lennie, lonney, Lowrie (bad IGI transcription?) etc.
Auchterlonie comes from the lands of the same name near Forfar. Auchter is a Gaelic place name element meaning 'top of' and lonie is probably from lonaidh, meaning road or path. The landed family of Auchterlonie is recorded in 1296 and eventually spread in the 17th century into a variety of spellings (including Ochterlonie). The shortened version, Lonie, was often used by Auchterlonies moving into towns in order to play down their countryside origins.

FORTH GENERATION & BEYOND
The Fourth Generation and below are recorded slightly differently from those above. All below are descended from Archibald and Mary Renton. For example 8 KATE CLELAND is the child of the seventh generation above her - 7 ELIZABETH JULIE ANNE BROWN who is in turn the child of the sixth generation above her - 6 LILIAN JANETTE RENTON who is the child of the 5th generation above her - 5 JAMES CRICHTON RENTON who is the child of the 4th generation - ANDREW RENTON. Eliza was left property at 37 North Castle Street, St Andrews by her father. This was rented out I gather until Andrew retired. Andrew was known to have been a blacksmith at Ballencrieff, Aberlady and at Edenside, Guardbridge (10 mins by car from St Andrews). The property was sold circa 1957 after Aunt Chris died. It has since been repurchased by relatives. According to Lilian Brown, Mysie and her husband below wanted to buy the house as they had been left money. Archibald refused to let them as he did not think they could aford it. The author believes that one of her decendants that bought the house back around 1987.
1982 Renton family history drafted by Mysie Easson records Andrew as born Springfield, Lasswade and as Blacksmith at Edenside, Strathkinness. Also as a singer/dancer Kinross.

William had the blacksmith's at Blinkbonny. Archibald, his father, may also have had the smithy at some stage. Noted from a website describing Currie "The hamlet of Blinkbonny grew up during the late l9th and early 20th century alongside Blinkbonny Farm. Mill workers' houses were erected by the owners of Kinleith Mill, along with other houses for the use of quarry workers who came to work at Torphin Quarry." Now known as "Juniper Green", Edinburgh.
William (6 below) thinks Grandpa sold the smithy at some stage and moved to Elgin Place, Edinburgh. He describes the smithy as adventure/fun/excitement with bellows, hot, sweat, sizzle, steam, clang, clamp, hammer, horseshoe, horsehoofs and Big Clydesdales.
1982 Renton family history drafted by Mysie Easson records William as a violinist and Thomasina as a teacher(?).

Authors Note
Some of this information was passed on to me by my Uncle (James Edgely Fisher Renton) who had been given a copy by a relative (6 MARION (Mysie) WEIR RENTON b. 11 Aug 1912 Kinross) who started this Renton history in 1982. I am sorry that many dates are missing. The original author may have known the dates but did not write them down. I have only checked some of the details at New Register House and from the IGI (mainly for Archibald's (b. 1824) children).
