Calder Valley and District Branch Cats Protection

Feral Cats

A true feral cat has never been domesticated and will never be able to be re-homed. Sometimes people ask us to remove feral cats, but we are not able to do this. Neither can we admit ferals to Branch care as they do not cope with confinement.

Many domestic cats that have been straying for some time become timid with humans and are mistaken for feral cats. Stray ex-domestic cats can only be admitted to Branch care if they are socialised to humans. If you are feeding a stray cat, but would prefer it to be re-homed, we would ask that you continue feeding the cat and try to gain its trust. Once the cat has gained confidence we will try to re-home it.

If there are any ferals in your area, we can lend you trapping equipment and arrange for them to be neutered, as long as they can be re-released back into that area and somebody will feed them and keep an eye on their future welfare.

We can assist with the cost of neutering, but a donation towards the cost would be much appreciated.
