The History of the Church in High Beach

Back to top of page

High Beach Parish Boundaries.

When the first High Beach Church, St. Pauls was built in 1836, a part of the large Waltham Abbey Parish was assigned as its 'district', which in due course became the Parish of High Beach. The Parish map of 1837 has survived and shows the fixed boundary points lettered as on the map below. The boundary line ran as follows:

From A, the Crossroads by the Volunteer, up the road to B, just over the Wake Arms Crossroads.

From B, first down a forest track, and then along the stream from the Fairmead Road Bridge to C, where it meets Cuckoo Brook below Connaught Water.

From C, following Cuckoo Brook to a forest ride running west to meet Bury Road at D, a short way north of the Jubilee Retreat.

From D, up the road through Sewardstonebury to E, at the Green Lane turning.

From E, on to Mott Street, then turning left as far as F, a field boundary just past Golden Row.

From F, following the field boundaries to Avey Lane at G

From G, up Avey Lane to Pynest Green Lane at H and on back to A.
