| The
AS-90 book from Wings and Wheels Publications |
| New Publications from
these prolific publishers are always welcome; each one sets new boundaries
and standards for others to follow.
This new one in the Present Vehicle line No 8 Green series is the AS
90 in Detail with support vehicles for IFOR mission, ISBN no 80-86416-34-8,
the author is Josef Spurny, printed in the now usual standard format on
high quality paper and in landscape format, it has crammed into its 72
pages, 241 full colour photographs, in very close up detail. Split into the usual sections of overall views, close up of hull details , turret details , turret interior, internal roof details, and external hatches, lastly how it is emplaced for in the firing line and the added bonus the ammunition palates and markings and colours of shells etc. The level of detail contained in the photographs is so good that one
can read the proof marks on the gun breach, for those who have been tempted
to buy the Trumpeter kit AS 90, then this is must have. It shows the true
effects of weathering on the vehicle and the method a painting the vehicles
in British service. As it is often quoted the “devil is in the detail”,
this book gives it to you all. An example of the detail is given on page
21 top left, you would be forgiven at first glance in thinking this was
a new Desert camouflage being tried out, it is in fact mud drying at different
rates and it gives the effect of desert cammo it does not get any better
than this. The only section missing is the engine details and the photographer
was lucky enough to be there on the day the fitters lifted an engine out;
you are not going to see it or photograph it.
