Education aBc Oxford Summer Course Photos 2005 - Classes

Students get involved in all sorts of activities in classes, and our friendly and very professional teachers are always ready to help.

The important thing is to get the students involved in using English, in a range of different situations and activities, from board work to project work, ...

... from pair work ...

... to role play,

... using the computers and other resources and equipment we have ...

(sometimes working alone, sometimes together)

... but they always work hard! (Well, most of the time!)

Competitions are a particular favourite - everyone wants to be a winner! - and students start to forget that they are using English naturally!

We also have a lot of high energy activities, to make sure that students are wide awake and ready to learn, like running dictations (often between classrooms - no, the students are not running out of class, they are running back in just as fast!)

The more advanced classes can get more involved in discussions, with opportunities to practice their speaking as well as experimenting with new ideas and new information.

Junior students are in separate classes from the Young Adult classes, and they have different activities, even though sometimes they are learning similar language.

The classes produce a range of different work, including the various Classroom Contracts,

...various projects, on a range of topics - not all of them serious!

... and this Angel's Poetry tree ...

... but perhaps some of the most impressive classroom projects have been the Charity Fundraising exercises.

In both the first two courses this year, classes have researched a charity (first UNICEF, second Save the Children), and have arranged an event (first a Charity Servants Auction, second an 80s evening with a paid entrance and various items and services for sale) to raise money for other children less fortunate than they are themselves.

This is not just a great language learning exercise, but also provides lots of important life lessons - and proves that doing the right thing can also be a lot of fun!

In the afternoons, we have Optional Enrichment Classes, where the students can choose from a range of different classes - some language based, like Grammar, or Communication Skills, some more subject based, like International Affairs, or Film and Storytelling, and others again such as our very popular Drama and Theatre options. This is a photo of the Drama group in week 4 this year, with the masks they made, and then used for character role play. When the weather is good, we often take some activities outside. These are photos of an end of course presentation ceremony, where students receive their certificates and reports. We also have give presentationsfor silly awards, such as the student who sleeps most!
