Education aBc Agent Pages

Have you ever thought about being an agent for summer language courses? Money for old rope? Well, probably not, but it can certainly be an extra source of income to sit alongside your teaching salary, and you often have a captive market – people who are already prepared to pay to speak better English – around you all the time.

Why should you do it? Well, a bit of extra money is never unwelcome. But also, it can be satisfying to be involved with something which you have confidence in. If you feel that students will have a good time with Education aBc, then you can be confident that promoting the courses will reflect well on you, and that you will get a great deal of satisfaction from having recommended the courses to your students and their parents.

So, what do you need to know, and what do you have to do?

There are four basic agency models.

1. Promotions only
Put up some posters, talk about things, and refer enquiries to us.
For this, we pay between 5% and 10% commission, as more of the work is done by us.
2. Selling a course
Promote and sell the course, answering enquiries locally, collecting the money from the student, and passing the money and completed application form(s) (or the same information in a suitable format) to Education aBc.
For this, we pay 10%-15% commission.
3. Selling a course and flight package
Promote and sell the course plus the flight. This may entail acting as a travel agency, and may have implications in terms of company status, a travel agency bond (in case of bankruptcy), etc.
For this, we pay 10%-15% commission, but the agent will probably also make commission from the flight.
4. Selling a course and flight package with a group leader accompanying
This definitely enters into the territory of being a travel agent (at least under UK law), and will entail having a bond (normally equal to annual turnover, or even a multiple of annual turnover) to ensure against bankruptcy – so that you would be able to refund your customers. The leaders are employees of the agency, recruited for the job.
There is a variant on this model where the group leader is also involved in recruiting the students, so bringing in an element of Model 2, but between the agent and the leader. The effect for Education aBc is the same.
For this, we pay 10%-15% commission, but the agent will probably also make commission from the flight and from the Group Leader package, making the overall package more expensive to the students.

Agencies already working in the Language Travel industry are probably using Model 3 or Model 4 already. Any agency which would like to work with Education aBc for the promotion of courses in July and August (and perhaps also Easter) should contact us as soon as possible.

Teachers working overseas may be interested in working as an agent under Model 1 or Model 2, so there is more information here designed to set out how you might make this work for you. Click here for the Next Page
