For writing stories, you might want to try Writerscafe.co.uk, or abctales.com. Or you may want style tips, so try: Economist.com/research/StyleGuide

For examination practice, there are many preparation sites, such as www.successatielts.com, which provides practice exercises for students preparing for IELTS examinations.

If you are doing a lesson on the weather, or even on clothes, then try Weatherpixie.com. Here you can choose what Pixie type (Goth, fairy, whatever) is going to be your guide, and he or she will dress accordingly. A cat may sometimes be there, and sometimes not - according to the site simply because that's what cats are like!

If you are doing relationships, people skills, that sort of thing, then you might find these sites useful:
eharmony.com
: Without a doubt, one of the keys to happiness in a relationship is knowing who you are and how you are perceived by others. You may think you know yourself well. You may think you know how others perceive you. But the truth is, few of us have ever gotten honest unbiased feedback about our personalities. Learning about yourself is a crucial first step towards a great relationship.
tickle.com/tests : Our Free Personality Profile is a powerful tool for finding out more about yourself. It includes specific information about your strengths and weaknesses and is a great way to improve your "people skills".

Finally, if you are really getting into using the internet for class based things, then you might even want to get your class to set up its own survey (or get them to survey you!). You can do a version of this for free on surveymonkey.com.

Also try:

www.albrightknox.org/artstart

www.eduref.org (especially for art classes)

Finally, these are the main sites by EFL publishers, with a lot of free resources and teaching ideas provided direct, either to supplement off-line (printed) materials, or just as stand alone extra lessons or lesson plans:

OUP (Oxford University Press)

CUP (Cambridge University Press)

Macmillan Heinemann (OneStopEnglish)

Longman (click on the link to Teens, and this also gives you a link to their on line dictionary)

You might also like to have a look at this part of the British Council website, which has recently been set up to provide general teaching ideas.

Please check and test these materials before you set up your class on different activities. There are particular activities suitable for all sorts of different grammar points or language levels, and a range of other skills, but you need to be sure that the one(s) you want for your class are still on the site.

If you have any comments or notes to make about the materials you have used, please pass them to Andrew Brown, and he will add them to this area, so that we can gradually build up a fuller, annotated list of sites to use.
