Welcome to the twelfth annual Saddleworth Folk Festival at Uppermill near Oldham, the friendly festival on the edge of the Pennines. As ever there's something for everyone, with Concerts, Ceilidhs, Singarounds, Workshops and Sessions and some of the top names in folk music. Add to that camping facilities, festival craft fair, quality accommodation within yards of the venues and some excellent opportunities for eating out and it all adds up to one of the finest festivals in the country. |

Main Concerts (Civic Hall) Friday 17th July 7.30 p.m. Eric Bogle and John Munro, Strawhead Stanley Accrington, Hissyfit, Shake the Roots Saturday 18th July 7.30 p.m. Bob Fox, Strawhead, Askew Sisters, The Young 'Uns, Zoe Mulford Sunday 19th July 1.30 p.m. New Rope String Band, Other Roads, Gene Burton, Hanky Park, Ewan MacLennan
(+many other Concerts throughout the town) --------------------- EVENTS A full weekend programme will include Concerts, Dance Displays, Singarounds, Musicians Sessions Children's Entertainment, Ceilidh, Free Craft Fair, Festival Cafe, Workshops and a Parade through the village. Events will include:- Meet the Artists, Meet The Singers, Hiring Fair (Book a spot with John Prentice phone 07899 973630),Wars of the Roses, Gospel Sing, Young Performers Concert. Presentations by:- Ray Padgett, John Storey, Strawhead, Barrie and Ingrid Temple Workshops will include:- Songwriters Workshops, Fiddle, Beginners Whistle, Guitar, Guitar Construction, Playing for dancing, plus special Young Peoples Workshops. In addition workshops will be provided by FOLKUS Make sure you purchase the Festival Programme for full details - available from Late June.

The Civic Hall will again be used for the main Concerts, Workshops and Meet the Artist events - the Festival Office, Cafe and Craft fair are also there. We will be returning to the Waggon Inn, Museum and Commercial, the Uppermill Conservative Club will be in use for the whole weekend. The Ceilidh will be in the Methodist Church, Greenfield Conservative Club for some events. All but one of our venues are in the centre of the village, and most have full disabled access. Other pubs in the village welcome festival goers and impromptu music sessions. A very picturesque campsite in the valley within very easy walking distance of all events. Facilities include toilets, running water, and shower block. Stewards are on site at all times from Thursday evening onwards. Professional security throughout the night. There is hard standing for Caravans and Motorhomes. Saddleworth hosts a variety of accommodation - hotels, guest houses and B&B's -for all prices. Saddleworth Tourist Information will send details on request (01457 874093). The Festival Cafe will be open from 10.00a.m. until 4.00p.m., and there are several excellent cafes and restaurants in the village (including Italian, Indian and English). Many of the pubs also serve meals. List Saddleworth, on the edge of the Pennines, is an area of dramatic beauty and contrasts, and offers a variety of activities to suit all tastes - parks, local interest museums, countryside visitors centre, narrowboat rides on the canal, swimming baths and craft shops - all within walking distance of the Festival. |
